East Lancashire Railway Volunteer Recruitment Tours

Your railway needs working members now more than ever. To enable prospective volunteers to find out about the vast range of volunteer opportunities on the railway, we run frequent volunteer recruitment tours. The tours are open to all who have an interest in volunteering on the railway.

On the tour, you will be taken behind the scenes of the railway and have the opportunity to talk to staff and volunteers who already work on the railway. The itinerary on the day may have to be varied for operational reasons but typically includes behind the scenes of a working signal box, a look around our Carriage and Wagon works to see heritage coaches being restored plus a visit to our extensive Loco Works and sidings at Baron Street. You can also expect to visit two of our stations and the Bury Transport Museum.

2024 Dates are now available to book:

To join one of tours you must be age at least 18 years and be capable of walking across rough ground such as ballast. Further details – including footwear and clothing requirements - are set out in a Safety Briefing that will be issued to all tour participants. For safety reasons, places on the tours are strictly limited so advance booking is essential.

Please be aware that these are not photographic tours and photography away from the public areas of the railway will not be allowed.

If you have any questions about the tours, please email volunteer.recruitmenttours@elrpsltd.org.uk
