About us

The East Lancashire Railway Preservation Society Limited is a membership of 3,500 like-minded individuals who have an interest in, and desire to support, the operation of the East Lancashire Railway. The East Lancashire Railway operates heritage steam and diesel hauled passenger services over 12¼ miles of track along the picturesque Irwell Valley between Heywood and Rawtenstall.

The Society is managed by a board of unpaid volunteer directors. Any surplus made by the ELRPS Ltd, through membership fees and donations, is re-invested in infrastructure projects to support the continued development the East Lancashire Railway.   To date the Society has provided project funding in excess of £600k.

By becoming a member of the Society or by renewing your membership when it expires you will enable further funding and financial support to the Railway and you are helping to preserve a piece of history that would have been lost but for the foresight an effort of those who formed the Society over 50 years ago.

Once you become a member your membership package includes copies of the ELRPS Magazine and the opportunity to travel at no cost on three occasions on non-event days.  Further travel may be purchased at a concessionary rate.  You will need to present your membership card at the time of booking travel, your card also acts as a platform ticket.
