Legacies  and gifts to the East Lancashire Railway Preservation Society Ltd.

Formed in 1968 the East Lancashire Railway Preservation Society Ltd provides both physical and financial support to the East Lancashire Railway.

With terminus stations in Heywood and Rawtenstall and railway operations centred in Bury the railway transverses 12.5 miles travelling through the beautiful Irwell Valley.

The aims of the Society are:

To support the preservation of the whole or part of the Ex-British Railways branch line between Rawtenstall and Castleton Junction through Bury together with its connection to the National Rail Network.

To give the East Lancashire Light Railway Co. Ltd. (the Railway) practical assistance through its members in the work of operating, restoring, maintaining and improving locomotives, rolling stock, permanent way and works and all other objects of the Railway.

In addition, the Society has funded through subscriptions, gifts and legacies, infrastructure projects with a value in excess of £500k that have assisted in the maintenance and continued development of the railway.

A brochure has been introduced to provide information to those who wish to make a legacy or bequest to the Society in order that it may continue to fund development projects.  None of the monies raised through legacies or bequests are spent on administration costs or fund the day to day operation of the railway.

If you require a copy of the brochure or would like to discuss this in confidence with someone from the East Lancashire Railway Preservation Society Ltd.  please contact our Secretary, by email secretary@elrpsltd.org.uk
